My Baby

So recovery is going well. He has been so active and has also resisted any medicine. This was fine and dandy until he had some pain yesterday and I had to wildly search Redmond for chewable Tylenol. Four stores later I found it and he is now felling pretty good. Sleep has been limited but I know it won't last forever. Pretty sweet though yesterday when I found him taking care of his baby. He is entering the world of imitation and imagination...I love it! Here he is taking care of his baby!

This Your Kid, This Is Your Kid on Codeine!

Henry has been taking Tylenol with Codeine for his pain. This tends to make you very sleepy and I was expecting a 2 day snuggle fest. A small amount of people who take Codeine get hyper and talkative instead of sleepy...guess what happens to Henry?!!!

You Are My Sunshine

We made it!!! Henry was a champ today and made it through the day with flying colors. I was so worried he would be cranky this morning because he had not eaten since the night before but with all of the new toys and wonderful nurses he was happy as a clam. He also met a girlfriend and she had a great Mom who I spent a lot of time talking with which made the day very pleasant. Henry usually hates anything that has to do with the Dr.'s office so I bought this book:

It worked so well and every time we got to a new little medical encounter (getting weighed, blood pressure, etc) we would look at the picture of Elmo in the book and it would be a breeze! He was even in high spirits as we walked back to the OR, and as he was put under all of the nurses helped me sing Henry's comfort song "You Are My Sunshine", it made my heart melt! He did show his stubborn side and held his breath for a couple seconds when they put the gas mask on him.

Recovery went well and he had his first popsicle, which he loved, and they gave him a little Doctor teddy bear. We only had a couple rough hours at home tonight as the anesthesia wore off. Eventually he felt better and was a bit manic. He was playing trains and kind of acting loopy. At one point he was yelling "Bill" and cocking his head to the side smiling. He truly is the silliest and most wonderful creature I have ever met! Bedtime came and we put him down and he is now out like a light. I can only hope the night has good things in store for us. So basically Swedish Hospital is wonderful. The nurses, anesthesiologist, surgeon and child life specialist were just wonderful to us. I would not think I would be able to say this but we really had a wonderful day. We were treated with so much care and once again Henry amazed me with his resiliency and ability to have fun in even the yuckiest of situations...once again it is the child setting an example for his parents! Below is a picture of Hen at home and a video of our day (link to you tube).

Introducing..!

Henry's 7th cousin arrived on Friday evening. Baby Eva Rose Rumbaugh came into this world after my poor sister endured quite a day! Lets just say Aunite Tinka's initiation into motherhood was quite tale. Little Eva weighed 8lbs. 6oz. and is 20 inches long! She is precious and has been a dream baby so far! She has the sweetest little round face and every time I look at her picture I just feel happy! We are so excited to meet her!

Tomorrow is Henry's surgery. We have an 8:45am check in and 10:45am surgery. He is not allowed any food after midnight and no milk after 3am. We can give him juice until 6:45am and then he has to fast. Not quite sure how we are going to explain the no milk and no breakfast thing to Henry but I know we will get through it. It is bound to be an interesting morning. I have spent the day spring cleaning the house. Bill says I am doing it because I am a control freak. He thinks since I can't control what will happen tomorrow I have to do something I can control, like cleaning the house. I halfway agree...but it will also be nice to have clean sheets and a clean house so I can just focus on getting my little guy all healed up. So wish us luck!

Discriminating Taste

As I am sure you can tell by the pictures Henry loves to eat! Problem is he will only eat what he wants. By this I mean if it looks like a cracker, chicken nugget, black bean or a piece of fruit he will try it. If it looks like anything else he will not. He has even been known to turn down cake because he does not like the look of it..come on its cake!!! If he has chosen that it looks inedible he does not politely say no thank you he instead makes a spitting sound and closes his eyes...we need to work on that. I do trick him into eating the occasional pea or helping of broccoli with my awesome plane sounds! I offer him a vegetable or two every night and I know one day he will eat them all up. Here are some of my favorite snacking pictures of Henry!

Perfect Combination

Looking at pictures of Bill and I when we were younger made me smile the other day because I realized how much Henry looks like the both of us! Pretty funny to pick apart and compare each feature and see who it belongs too!

Jump!

Henry has learned a new new daddy taught trick. I am not to sure if I like this trick yet! Blogger won't let me upload it so here is a link to the video on you tube.

We have been doing a night off babysitting swap with the Hubert's and this weekend was our turn to have Halle overnight.

We have had so much fun. The two of them have their struggles with sharing and invading each others space but overall they are pretty cute together. It makes me laugh when people assume they are twins, no two babies could look less alike!!! Here are some pictures of our time yesterday at Microsoft using the beach volleyball court as a sandbox.

He's Back!

We ended up in the Dr's office again this week because that stubborn ear/eye infection just wouldn't go away! We got a stronger course of antibiotics and magically in one dose Henry began to be himself again! He is sleeping better, smiling and laughing most of the day and let me tell you it has been awhile since we have seen that Henry around the house.

As Henry gets older he just gets crazier...in a good way! He loves to play on his own and often tells me "bye" and shuts himself in a room. He also loves to be organized and constantly lines things up. Just this morning I came in the room and this is what he was doing with his cars.

Below are more pictures of my parents visit which was so much fun! Henry loved the attention and I don't think I did dishes, laundry or cooking for the entire week! The idea of a commune with all family members in one house is sounding more and more attractive these days!

Stay tuned I have a couple more cute videos and pictures I promise to post this week!

I Am Tired!

Henry woke up grumpy today! The poor little guy has just been through the ringer with this ear/eye infection. He also has a cold and croup on top of it so he has been pretty uncomfortable. It has been wonderful having my parents and my niece and nephew around because Henry has been super distracted from feeling yucky with all of the attention!

So this morning after just being fussy he walked into his room and pointed at his crib and said "night night" so I put him in. Then he pointed at his sound machine and said on, so I turned it on. Lastly he put his head on his pillow pulled up the blanket and said bye to me so I would leave. 5 minutes later he was out like a light. It was so funny because it makes me realize what a big kid he is becoming. Being able to walk up to me and let me know he wants to go to sleep may seem like small potatoes but it is huge!

Happy Weekend!

Just When You Think You Have It Figured Out...

Well we traded the surgery today for a double ear/eye infection...yuck! Yesterday Henry was rubbing his eyes like crazy and was super fussy so I took him to the doctor to make sure he would be okay for surgery and they discovered the ear and eye infections which put the surgery on hold! We are rescheduled for April 26th. I was so bummed because my parents are here and really wanted to help after surgery. I do think it is a blessing in disguise because having them with me yesterday and for the next couple of days while he is sick is so helpful. I have a feeling after the surgery Henry and I will snuggle up and watch the tube and nap all day so I won't need much help. I won't even need to cook because my mom is filling my freezer with meals so we are set!

We are having a great couple of days despite Henry's bug and have been hanging out with my niece and nephew while my sister in law recovers from her surgery (we are one surgery happy family right now!)Henry just loves watching Davis and Sierra do anything so it has been nice for him.

Here are a couple of pictures of last week at the Microsoft spring carnival and some from my parents visit so far!

Best Grandparents Ever!

Henry is very lucky to have all four of his grandparents to shower him with lots of love. Bill and I do feel guilty sometimes living so far away because it is really important to us that Henry knows all of his grandparents very well and I want his grandparents to know him too. So we talk about them constantly, we skype and we let Henry say Hi when we are on the phone. That all is good but we decided to up the ante a bit and make grandparent magnets for Henry's new magnet board in his playroom. He loves them and after he started kissing them without my prompting I decided to see if I could get it on tape and he did it and knew who each grandparent was!

Olive You!

I tried all day yesterday to upload a funny toilet paper video and had no luck! Thankfully we have a whole bunch of Henry videos.

First one is him drinking the water from his spray bottle we use to fix his hair. He gets so excited when I do this. We have been doing this for a couple months now and he has always loved it! I love how he giggles and his whole body shakes.

The second video is one of my favorites. Henry LOVES our dog Olive, which is funny because usually everyone loves Wilson and thinks Olive is just okay. Not Henry though he is in total love with his four legged best friend Olive. He follows her around, kisses her, pets her, rolls on her and often talks to her. Olive loves this relationship too because often Henry has food and he often spills. Here is a cute video of the two friends having a snack together.

I will end with an embarrassing I am a bad Mom story. I was chatting with Bill on the computer after lunch the other day and noticed it was very quiet in the house, not a good thing when you live with a toddler. I went on a search and found Henry and his dogs playing in the backyard...Henry was barefoot! Note to self Henry can open the back door, time to start locking it!
